Volunteer Opportunities - July 2010
It sure has been a busy year so far. The rest of the summer will be heavy on the sailing and should be great fun for everyone. There are currently no events booked for the week between the two sails but stay tuned.
We are officially announcing that Gazela will be sailing to Oyster Bay in October. This will be our final trip of the season and you can sign up for it on our Sign up page. There are still spaces on all legs but after a slow start, New Bedford is filling up fast. If you plan on going and haven't signed up, hurry or you may miss out.

Membership Dues
Our membership rates and benefit levels will be changing in the next few months. We're starting to send out reminders to try to get everyone up to date first. If you can't recall paying your dues in a while, you may have lapsed and not realized it. Paid Member events are starting to be enforced and your dues must be paid before you can sail or get member rewards like as discounted parking.
Penn's Landing is making changes to their parking controls. If you are lapsed, it may take a little while to reinstate you on the parking list, as we can only make changes once a month. There isn't anything we can do, no matter how much we like you and want you to come down and play with us.
Training
There has been a good response to the Level 1 single day training sessions, running this summer. Last month, we had 8 attendees. The session tomorrow has 8 people already registered and the prospect for a couple of more. There is one more Level 1 session planned for Aug 14, to teach folks joining for the Cabaret trip to Brooklyn. Scheduling for September and October will be determined at a future date. I'd like to thank Jack Gifford and Tony Coppola for all their work in teaching Level 1 classes this year.
Anyone wishing to take the written test for Level 1 may plan to sit for it during the training session on July 18 or on August 14th. Sign up for the classes soon.
Due to a math error during a recent printing of the Gazela crew manual (forgot a decimal place), there will be a $5 charge for printed manuals. The training group wishes to thank Naomi Kaminsky for her stellar leadership in assembling and binding the manuals.
Thank you
