Gazela Crew needed to move ship on Saturday, Sept 9 to the Great Plaza - time will be determined 24 hours prior to Saturday

Weekend Update
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Labor Day weekend was a washout! But despite the weather, things still happened. Eddie Walsh led the effort to fabricate shelf brackets for the barge hold. Bob English worked on carving out pipe sleeves for the pintle jig. I saw Lynn and Danie helping Ed and sorting fasteners. Way to go!
The ship was quiet on Monday, with Ed taking a long deserved holiday. A couple of volunteers were offering guided tours to visitors to the Landing.
Rudder Progress
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While lumber was delivered to the Landing last week, Jeff felt that we needed better stock. So he and Marcus went to a variety of mills in the Allentown region seeking a rudder post. Given the revised lumber situation, the Guild is leaning more towards replacing just the rudder post and not the whole rudder.

Jeff and Marcus have located a nice 31' log at Heacock Lumber in Plumsteadsville, PA. Heacock will mill it to the dimensions they specified next Tuesday and will arrange with the Guild for delivery. So - don't plan on much wood action this weekend coming.

In the meantime, the bronze rod for fasteners has been ordered, tallow, lime, and Irish Felt located, and new copper is arriving soon. Jeff is building his pintle jig (for accurately identifying the pintle location) and then will return once the wood is present next week.

Great Schooner Race
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are very optimistic that the rudder will be installed and tested before October 7th. Why the 7th? Because that's when the Gazela would depart Philadelphia, bound for Baltimore and the last trip of the year. Sign up now for a berth
If you are interested in going, the schedule is as follows:
Oct 7-10 - Depart Philly, train on the way to Baltimore
Oct 11 - Open to Public in Baltimore
Oct 12-14 - "Race" to Norfolk
Oct 12-15 - Open to Public in Norfolk
Oct 16-17 - Return to Philly
Upcoming Work
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The barge remains in focus for the foreseeable future. With the creation of shelf brackets, much of the contents of the bilge can be organized. So, please try and come down to help get the barge put together again. This work has been very effective at restoring order to the barge.
